The Miraculous Story of the Magnificent Jeevaratham (Part 1)
Ratham: Temple car; chariot; vehicle for deities.
Jeevan: Soul; uyir; aathma.
Jeevaratham: A soulful chariot.
A chariot that expresses deep emotion, passion, and profound feelings related to spiritual connection.
What Is Special About the Jeevaratham?
- a) Unlike Velliratham, Thangaratham, and other rathams that are tied to the material world, the Jeevaratham is free from material attachment. It is attached to the soul.
- b) It was not planned, ordered, or purchased with money by the temple management.
- c) It was not constructed by professional builders, either locally or from outside India.
- d) It was made by a local devotee along with a few of his friends.
- e) Apart from wood for the body, plywood was used to make the yazhis and the horses.
How Did It Come About?
- a) It came into existence because Sri Subramaniar HIMSELF desired to have it made for HIM. (1984)
- b) HE appeared in the dream of a local devotee, who possessed wood-working skills, and instructed him to begin making a ratham for HIM.
- c) HE assured the devotee not to worry, saying that from the very beginning until completion, everything would be taken care of by HIM HIMSELF.
- d) After that the devotee did not know what to do. He just let the time pass and later shared with a neighbour friend who had similar interest.
- e) Though they were not sure what exactly to do, they knew they needed money for the project. So, they started saving money and a few other friends contributed monthly.
- f) Then, on the next Thaipusam day a MIRACLE happened.
What was the MIRACLE ???
Will be continued in Part 2.
